#473: Jan 20 - 26, 2013

Chart At A Glance

  • Looks like Lindsey Stirling’s “What Child Is This” holds at #1 for a sixth total week, a record for a Christmas song!
  • However, its lead over Third Day’s “I Need A Miracle” continues to narrow, and significantly at that this week.
  • This week sees the first Top 5 movement of the year, as The Washington Projects’ former #1, “Time”, jumps back up to #4. For a song to reclaim #1 is definitely not unheard of. The last time there was any hot contest for the top was back in 2008, however, when Sanctus Real and downhere would take #1 from each other several times that year with respective songs “Whatever You’re Doing” and “Here I Am”.
  • This week also sees much more movement, primarily inside my Top 25. But first, let’s start with the remainder of my Top 10.
  • Lindsey Stirling maintains 3 songs inside my Top 10—“Elements” holds at #7, but “Crystallize” steps up 1 to #9, which was oddly enough for it to claim the “Jump Of The Week” (a measure of my gain in interest—a huge gain in interest doesn’t always have a corresponding increase in rank).
  • Similarly, Jason Gray has the “Fall Of The Week” in terms of interest with “Remind Me Who I Am”, even though the song only slips 1 spot to #14.
  • RED has a pretty good week this week, as perennial favorite “Pieces” is back in my Top 10 again, new single “Perfect Life” holds steady at a healthy #15, and previous debut “Buried Beneath” jumps 6 to #17.
  • Further down the chart, recent debut “Miracles”, by Sara Groves, rises 6 to #35.
  • And finally, 2 songs newly debut near the bottom, and 1 re-enters once again. Jonathan Thulin makes the highest debut of the week at #44 with “Bombs Away”, on the strength of its powerful music video. Not far behind is Josh Groban’s latest release, “Brave”, coming in at #47. And lastly, KJ-52’s “Dangerous” re-enters at #49. The song has had an uneven track record, regularly bouncing on and off the chart. Let’s see how long it’ll stay on this time?

For visual browsers only, Bullets (e.g., ▲ and ▼) appear on songs seeing a gain or loss of interest, regardless of movement. Upward bullets show gains—white for slight gains, aqua for high, and gold for very high. Downward bullets show losses—grey for slight losses, purple for high, and black for very high. “Jump Of The Week” and “Fall Of The Week”, when present, indicate songs with the biggest change in interest. Finally, songs below #50 become recurrents after 25+ weeks charting, or after 40+ weeks if they never peaked above #26. For more details, see my chart methodology.
