My Statements Of Faith

Why I Hold Faith In God

To me, life wouldn't make sense without God. Did we humans appear on our own? Are we some sort of accident, in an accidentally existing world? I would hate to believe that could be true. If it is true, then what purpose would living have? I could easily see life degenerating into a horrid free-for-all, all people gorging themselves on the vanities of this world. Sadly, that is the case with some. But I don’t want that to be the case with me. I want life to mean something significant to me, and not just for me, but for others as well, and not just during my lifetime, but beyond it as well. Sure, maybe for my life to have significance apart from God could be possible, but then some glaring questions persist. For example, where and how does morality originate, if it has no Godly basis? Why does every one of our body’s billions of cells contain an intricate blueprint called DNA? From where did that come? It couldn’t have happened purely naturally! The odds of such probably lie essentially below the already zero odds of an encyclopedia naturally assembling itself, binding and all. Finally, for my last few example questions, how could people have been living and even dying for lies, for over 2000 years? If Christianity were a lie, we should think naysayers would had seen the Bible to extermination during the years its authors were writing it, no? Why has the Bible and Christianity managed to persist, even thrive, for so long?

Ultimately, faith is a choice, and no amount of positive evidence of God or negative evidence doubting His non-existence, can airtightly convince all of us. In fact, true faith wouldn’t be faith if we already knew the answers beforehand. So, ultimately, I believe, because I want to, and partly because I’m convinced of God’s existence. Even if it all were a lie, though, I don't think I would regret the way I’m living now, because I've been using (and want to even more use) my life, transformed by belief, to make a positive difference in the lives of other people around me, and even beyond my horizons. Furthermore, “atheism has never created an artistic masterpiece, never healed a fatal disease or calmed a fear,” says singer Carman in There Is A God. “Atheism has never still given answers to our existence, peace to a troubled mind or even dried a tear.”
